Revell Blog Tour: Julie Lessman’s “A Heart Revealed”

She Left Ireland And A Man Who Broke Her Heart…
Only To Find An American Who Could Restore It.

Julie Lessman’s new novel A Heart Revealed (ISBN: 978-0-8007-3416-9, $14.99, 512 pages, September), the second offering in the “Winds of Change” series, opens in Boston in 1931, where thirty-one-year-old Emma Malloy has fled from an abusive marriage in Ireland.

Although her former husband has left her haunted and deeply scarred, Emma cannot help but develop strong feelings for her friend Charity’s brother, Sean O’Connor.

Described by his sister as very stubborn, Sean maintains that he is not the marrying kind. But as he and Emma draw closer and closer, will her strong, tender heart ensnare him and change his mind?

Transporting readers back to a time when the Empire State Building was brand new and the local speakeasy was a common destination, Lessman outlines the fascinating era and its citizens with deft precision.

Lessman, who has been hailed as a writer with noteworthy skill by Publishers Weekly has once again delivered an epic tale featuring vibrant characterization, wonderful thrills, sharp dialogue, and surprises both large and small.  Fans of Julie Lessman will enjoy her signature passion, longing, and unexpected revelations!

My Review:

Here is a post from Facebook that so fits this story.  Source unknown:

“We need to teach our daughters how to distinguish between a man who flatters her and a man who compliments her …. a man who spends money on her and a man who invests in her …. a man who views her as property and a man who views her properly ….. a man who lusts after her and a man who loves her ….. a man who believes he is God’s gift to women and a man who remembers a woman was God’s gift to man.”

Julie Lessman’s book, A Heart Revealed, hits on all these points so succinctly through the lives of Sean O’Connor and Rory and Emma Malloy, with Emma being abused by her husband, leaving her deeply scarred.  Julie hits her stride in this story.  She pulls out all the strings and tugs on every emotion you can imagine! Just when I think Julie has already written her best in her two series, she pulls out A Heart Revealed!

Of course, Julie doesn’t leave out the O’Connor sisters and their interventions, schemes, dilemmas, and troubles.  They are what add additional dimension and sassy characterization to the whole story line!

Julie hit me broadside with this book of heartache, abuse, love and passion.  It’s a book that will stay with me for some time!  The characters are people you know in your own life!  And God’s faithfulness in redemption is evident in the lives of each character.

Look for her Daughters of Boston Series and A Hope Undaunted, the latter of which is free on Kindle as of the date of this review.  It’s best to read them in order, as they build on each other, making sense of the dramatization of the O’Connor daughters in A Heart Revealed.

This book was provided by Donna Hausler, Publicity Assistant, Baker Publishing Group, in exchange for my honest review.  No monetary value was exchanged.
