My Review:

Most of us have heard at one time or another to “Never say never.”  Have you said that to yourself at any time?

There are good Nevers and negative Nevers.  Good Nevers can include working the exclusive job we have, running Marathons, writing a book, accomplishing goals we didn’t think we could attain, etc.  Then there are the negative Nevers, such as I’d never have an abortion, I’d never lose my job, I’d never end up in prison, etc.  Overcoming the Nevers is Teri Johnson’s story of overcoming her negative Nevers.

Having known Teri since she was three years of age, I can attest to much of her growing up years.  She came from a very loving family.  She was vibrant, excited, happy-go-lucky, always singing. What I didn’t know was how she was struggling on the inside:  “I’m not good enough; I’m a bad person; I’m a loser; I’m a failure.”

This led her to her ultimate negative Nevers.  But Teri doesn’t allow herself or anyone who reads her book to stay there.  The journey is hard, but the benefits are out of this world!  She shares her faith, and how the Lord brought her through the worst.  She, like all of us, are a ‘work in progress.’

Teri’s book begins with “I do not understand what I do.  For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do” from Romans 7:15.  Come along and see how she attains Romans 8:1-2.

Based on the 12-step program, Teri shares her personal journey through recovery.  She’s transparent and honest, while challenging others to make the changes necessary to overcome their Nevers.  Teri’s Escape from Neverland starts here:

  1. Willingness:  Freedom starts here
  2. Acceptance:  The foundation we build upon
  3. Faith:  Our Source of confidence
  4. Surrender:  Raising the white flag for something better
  5. Courage:  Peeling back the layers–getting to the root of it all
  6. Admission:  Expose it, own it
  7. Transformation:  Equipped to change–wholly, completely, and unreservedly
  8. Humility:  Acknowledging our role–not being proud or arrogant
  9. Responsibility:  Embracing the opportunity
  10. Restoration:  Doing it intentionally–no matter what
  11. Clarity:  Choosing everyday to see
  12. Awareness:  Alive, focused, and moving forward
  13. Light:  Illuminate your world as you journey to become you–shine on!

Again, I will say, Teri is very transparent about her travel through these steps.  Loaded with pertinent Scripture, she challenges you to walk the walk and allow the Lord to remove your Nevers.  This is a daily exercise accomplished with the help of God through Jesus, with whom you can do all things.  She shares her personal worksheets on her www. keepingitpersonal.com website.

12-steps is a spiritual program (Christian founder[s]). They didn’t push any particular religious view, leaving it to God to capture the clients’ hearts.  Teri shares her Christian faith, introducing them to the One True God and Savior Jesus Christ.  “For there is no other Name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved. Act 4:12”

Teri’s comment is that “Anyone could benefit from reading this book whether they believe in the trinity/Christianity/Jesus–it’s God’s job to capture their heart.  It’s my job to love and be Christ’s hands and feet–to direct others to Him…plant the seeds.”

Teri’s book is very comprehensive about our walk with the Lord and overcoming the negative Nevers (sin) in our lives.  Pick up a copy today!  Her book can be purchased “here.”
