“Proof” by Jordyn Redwood (A Suspense Zone Tour)

DNA is Proof Positive~~Right?

Dr. Lilly Reeves is a young, accomplished ER physician with her whole life ahead of her. But that life instantly changes when she becomes the fifth victim of a serial rapist. Believing it’s the only way to recover her reputation and secure peace for herself, Lilly sets out to find–and punish–her assailant. Sporting a mysterious tattoo and unusually colored eyes, the rapist should be easy to identify. He even leaves what police would consider solid evidence. But when Lilly believes she has found him, DNA testing clears him as a suspect. How can she prove he is guilty, if science says he is not?

Jordyn Redwood is a nurse by day, novelist by night. She has specialized in critical care and emergency nursing for nearly two decades. As a self professed medical nerd, she reads medical textbooks for fun. This led to the creation of Redwood’s Medical Edge– a blog devoted to helping authors write medically accurate fiction. Jordyn loves to weave medical mystery into her story lines and see how her characters navigate through the chaos she creates.

“Jordyn Redwood makes quite a splash with her debut novel. Proof is a hard-edged mix of medical thriller and crime chiller that grabs you on the first page and doesn’t let go until the end. This one will keep you up way past your bedtime.” Rick Acker, best-selling author of When the Devil Whistles.

“From the very first chapter, the first page even, Jordyn Redwood pulls the reader into a story that won’t let go. Proof is proof enough for me that Jordyn is the real deal: an author who knows how to weave a tight story, write descriptive, authentic prose, and deal with some pretty hefty issues. I’m a fan!” Mike Dellosso, author of Frantic and Rearview (a 7 Hours story).

“I had trouble putting this novel down. I loved the characters, the unique plot, and the way Redwood weaves a tale that kept me intrigued from chapter to chapter. This is going to be one of my favorite novels of the year.” Wanda Dyson, best-selling author of Shepherd’s Fall and Judgement Day.

“Jordyn Redwood may be new on the scene, but she writes like a seasoned pro. Proof is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time with well-drawn characters, a villain I despised, and a hero and heroine I rooted for. I thought I would just take a peek at the first chapter and finish the story later. I thought wrong. I read late into the night, lost sleep and put off my own writing to finish this book. I’m eagerly awaiting the second book by Jordyn and will be the first in line to purchase it the day it releases.” Lynette Eason, author of When the Smoke Clears.

“Jordyn Redwood’s debut novel is a page-turning medical thriller with an ingenious premise and solid Christian values. A satisfying read.” Frank J. Edwards, MD, author of Final Mercy.

“I love a great medical thriller and I’m glad to add another author to my list. Jordyn Redwood writes like the medical insider she is: a gripping tale laced with medical realism, sleep-robbing excitement and something every reader loves: hope.” Harry Kraus, MD, best-selling author of The Six Liter Club.

“Debut novelist Jordyn Redwood has used her experience as an ER and ICU nurse to craft a blend of medical thriller and police procedural with twists and turns to keep fans of either genre turning pages.” Richard L Mabry, MD, author of Lethal Remedy and the Prescription For Trouble series.

“A rollercoaster of a story. Jordyn Redwood’s Proof has everything you could want in a thriller– believable characters, a villain who makes your skin crawl, a touch of humor, and a twisting plot– all bound by fascinating medical and scientific details. What a fabulous debut!” Sarah Sundin, award-winning author of the Wings of Glory series.

My Review:

Torrence Campbell was transported to Sage Medical Center ER after her involvement in a high-speed, T-boned motor vehicle accident.  And she’s pregnant.  Dr. Lilly Reeves is ready to leave at the end of her shift, but can’t find her keys, so she takes the Trauma Code call.  Mother and baby don’t survive.  One of the nurses, Sonya, knew her and they were due on the same day.

Detective Nathan Long thinks the MVA was intentional.  But he has skeletons in his closet that cause him to second guess himself throughout the story.  He will need to learn to push through it.  Will he be able to set it aside and work it out to be of value to Lilly?

Dr. Lilly Reeves is brutally raped.  Her coping skills deteriorate to the point of losing her job.  She’s outraged that a serial rapist is out there and the police have yet to notify the public. She’s now pregnant, livid, and obsessed!  Once she’s stabilized, she decides to search on her own to find the proof she needs to put away the man she knows is the serial rapist.  But the DNA doesn’t match!

Jordyn Redwood, in Proof, has outdone herself in her debut medical and crime thriller novel.  The trauma is portrayed so realistically that you feel like you know the women personally. The medical aspects were thorough and educational. All the characters are richly described and personable, except for the rapist.   He’s haughty, bold, and vicious in his attacks.  He’s one person I would love to see behind bars!

The multiple twists and turns in the storyline are hair-raising episodes that don’t stop, beginning with the first page to the very last.   The scenarios keep you pumped and on the edge of your seat as they transpire.  The cat-and-mouse games become dangerous and deadly.  Will Lilly find the information that is necessary to take down the perpetrator before he gets to her?  And what a medical mystery! I never saw it coming!

Lilly learns to reach out to the Lord to keep her sanity and to stay safe.  The help of her friends, Dana and Kadin, is the beginning of a changed life.

To distract from the horrors of the trauma and dangerous episodes, there is a rival romance going on between Detective Long and Dr. Daughtry for the hand of Lilly.  You’ll have to read the book to see if she chooses either one.

Jordyn is an author you will definitely want to keep tabs on.  This is only book one of the Bloodline Trilogy.   Can’t wait for the next book!
