Haunted by faint memories and flashes of details, Peter becomes convinced that something isn’t right and begins to question reality. When he discovers a note in his daughter’s handwriting, strange memories begin to surface that cause him to second-guess nearly everything he once believed.

Suddenly armed men show up at Peter’s home, turning the mysterious puzzle of his past into a dangerous game of cat and mouse. On the run and unsure whom to trust, Peter has to discover what’s real and what isn’t . . . before he loses everything.

My Review:

Centralia is one of the most gripping, mind-boggling, suspenseful, dangerous and deadliest reads I’ve read in a long time!  Peter Ryan is caught up in a running story of what memories are true/false, who he can trust/or not, who he is/isn’t, and staying alive against the collaboration of armed men, while he determines what is happening to his life.  His ability to read a situation is uncanny and mesmerizing.  He has interactions with several people he thinks he can trust.  But can he?  Maybe, maybe not.  You will be spell-bound trying to figure it out yourself.  A fast-paced book that has you up all night once you start reading.

The author, Mike Dellosso uses tight, descriptive phrases that bring out the action!  He’s been a stellar author I have enjoyed reading from the first book he wrote.  He will not disappoint you if you love mysterious, fast-paced action with multiple twists and turns.

My Review:

From mystery/thriller author, Mike Dellosso, comes his newest book, Fearless!  It’s the story of one little girl, Louisa, who is fearless in the midst of evil.  When she prays, people are healed–at least most.  She first appears in the midst of Jake Tucker’s fire, which was almost done in by a pot of eggs.

With no knowledge of who she is and where she is from, Doug Miller, the local Chief of Police, ask Jim and Amy Spencer to take Louisa in until they find out who she is and where she belongs.  Though they have been foster parents for years, Amy and Jim are reeling over the miscarriage of their baby.  Amy is mostly spooked by the little girl’s actions, but Jim has taken a fatherly liking to her, which endears him to me.  She seems to be the daughter they lost.

After Louisa prays for and heals different children, the town’s people all want healing.  That opens the door to wreak havoc with the Spencer’s in more ways than one.  You will find that people aren’t always who they appear to be.

To up the ante in his book, the town of Virginia Mills has a serial killer on their hands.  The police have no clues, no evidence and no idea who the perpetrator is.  There are few common denominators amongst the victims. The murders happen once a day for seven days in a row.  The police are stymied.

Mike’s unique style of supernatural thrillers comes alive one more time in Fearless.  His use of metaphors opens your eyes to comprehend situations in a broader, more vivid view.  He touches on several issues that intertwine throughout the story–domestic abuse, revenge, murder, miscarriage, childhood abuse, miracle healings, faith, and respect.  Mike’s superb writing interweaves all these issues and more throughout the chapters and keeps you on the edge of your seat, trying to help the individuals that are being targeted.  But you are helpless, as are most of the victims!

If you love thrillers, you will enjoy this book!  It will intrigue you and set you on edge from page one to the very end.  But do be aware, there are gruesome scenes that may be disturbing.

FABULOUS OPPORTUNITY~~WEDNESDAY ONLY: The Darlington Society, Season II, Open Call for Membership

A Message from Mike Dellosso/Michael King:

Darlington Society . . . I need your help

Last year I came up with the idea for The Darlington Society. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with my writing and life in general and decided I needed some support group.

25 charter members were chosen and we spent nine months interacting, encouraging each other, praying, and supporting. They were my A-team and, looking back, so much happened that wouldn’t have if I didn’t have them in my corner. I was blessed and I hope they were too. Overall, I think it was a great success.

So I’d like to do it again. This time we’re looking for 30 members.

Interested? Here’s what you have to do:

One, read over the details of the Society again and please make sure this is something you want to commit to for five months. I’m excited about getting to know some of my readers better and working with them to reach more people with my books. If you’re a member, I’m betting you’ll count it a positive experience. We’ll be a blessing to each other.

Two, today, June 18, through Wednesday, June 20, post a comment here or my other blog telling me in a few sentences why you want to be a part of the Society.

I’ll read over those posts, pray about them, and announce the 30 new members on Friday, June 22.

**Now, a disclaimer is necessary. I have readers overseas who I know will want to be a part of this. That’s okay. We’re not going to exclude anyone just because they live in a different country. That would hardly be fair. BUT, please understand we can’t send hard copies of ARCs/manuscripts overseas, the postage is just too much. If you live outside the US you will receive the early reader’s copy of my next book via email as an electronic edition.

Lastly, please help spread the word about this unique opportunity by sharing this post on Facebook and Twitter and maybe even your own blog.

I’m looking forward to reading all your comments and embarking on a new journey with you.

Please note: This term of The Darlington Society is for my first book under my new pen name, Michael King. The novel is NOT suspense but drama. Titled, A Thousand Sleepless Nights.

Questions? Please leave it as a comment and I’ll do my best to answer them.

My Comments (One Desert Rose):

As a member of The Darlington Society, Season I, not only did I read and blog about great books, but I got to know Mike Dellosso on a more personal level.  I was given the opportunity to pray for him, his work, and his family.  With his new expansion to a new pen name, Michael King, I think you will be in for a grand surprise.  Posts from Michael King have been insightful and exciting.  I expect his new book, A Thousand Sleepless Nights, to supersede all of our expectations!

Please consider joining The Darlington Society, Season II, for the ride of your life, with the opportunity to see an author in action!  You will enjoy all the excitement!  And be blessed in the process!

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Mike Dellosso now lives in Hanover, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Jen, and their three daughters. In addition to his novels of supernatural suspense he writes a bi-weekly column for his local newspaper and is an adjunct professor of writing at Lancaster Bible College. He received his BA degree in sports exercise and medicine from Messiah College and his MBS degree in theology from Master’s Graduate School of Divinity.

My Review:

Dan Blakely is at the peak of his world.  He’s a professor at Boone College Campus teaching English Literature.  He’s ready to receive an additional PhD and a promotion, which includes a higher salary.  In fact, in anticipation, he’s already bought a new car and house.

The higher status and salary evaporate when he is accused of sexual assault and subsequently fired from his job.  He’s desperate and makes a poor choice in how to handle the financial mess he’s in.  Ultimately, he finds himself under the mangled mess of his car on the side of the mountain.  The choice Dan made may seem ‘reasonable’ considering the fact that he is far away from the Lord, yet not so because of his professionalism and the fact that his family relationships were close and were of great importance, though he had some regrets there.

While trapped, a mysterious stranger, Thomas Constant, offers him three choices.  Frantically, Dan makes his choice, but it’s a choice that will cost him dearly.

This was such a haunting ride of a book.  Mike has you guessing whether he’s dreaming, hallucinating, or is actually going through the experiences he is going through.  It didn’t matter how I looked at the book at the end, Mike still had we wondering how much was real and how much was too mysterious to comprehend.

I was intrigued by the analogies that mirrored Dan Blakely’s life.  Here are just a few:

  • Lead glass windows distorted the view of campus–like the upcoming meeting
  • Dark sky hung dark and foreboding–like his life after his firing
  • Breaking car tumbling down the mountain–like his life tossed in a tumbler
  • Minutes and hours ticking away–like his life fading as an ebb tide

Dan’s life, like all of our lives, is made up of choices.  Some lead to great rewards, others lead to regrets.  Dan had regrets.  How about your own life?  Who or what is more important?  This is something that you will be contemplating throughout Rearview.  A lifetime won’t make up for time squandered, leaving you with regrets. Make your life count, but make sure it also counts with the Lord.

In Rearview, I found a side of Mike I was familiar with.  He’s a great storyteller that just never quits!  This book is no different.  Like his previous books, this one will also have you on the edge of your seat!  Buckle up for a superb ride!

FRANTIC Giveaways to celebrate~~Mike Dellosso…Michael King: A Time for Change…A New Direction

*Mike Dellosso…Michael King:  A Change…A New Direction

A Fork in the Road

There comes a time in everyone’s life when you have to try something new. I’m not afraid of trying, not afraid of failing. I am afraid of regrets.

Go back with me to 2009, I’ve just finished a year-long battle with colon cancer and am having a horrible time getting back into writing. I’ve lost my inspiration, my will, my drive. Cancer has sucked every ounce of fight out of me and has drained me emotionally. Over the next few months things begin to normalize, I start writing again, begin to feel like I’m regaining my creative momentum. Only something is different. I see life in a new light now, view things differently. I still love writing suspense but seem to want more. I want to touch readers on a different level, more personal, more where they are as they live life and struggle through it as I have.

It took me awhile to figure out exactly what was going on inside me but when I did I ran it past my agent and publisher and they both agreed. I needed to branch out and write something that wasn’t suspense, something that was more aimed at the heart, something that dealt with life and love, heartache and triumph. Something that could and would reach a wider audience.

So . . . I began work on my first contemporary drama, A Thousand Sleepless Nights. But there was a problem. Mike Dellosso writes suspense. Readers know that and expect that. And we didn’t want to confuse the market by throwing something totally different at them. So I assumed a pen name–Michael King.

*From this point forward I will be two writers: *Mike Dellosso who writes suspense, and Michael King who writes contemporary drama. How will I handle all of this? Great question.

I will eventually transition the bulk of Mike Dellosso’s writing and interaction to my Facebook author page. There I will handle all updates, giveaways, thoughts, etc. I’ll still blog right here but primarily to notify you of updates on the Facebook page.

Michael King has a blog and a Facebook page as well but most of his writing and interaction will take place on the blog.

Here’s what I’m asking of you:

  1. If you haven’t yet, go to Mike Dellosso’s Facebook page and “like” it. It’s the primary way you’ll receive updates when I post there. And visit often. I’ll continue to give away books and update everyone on my next suspense novel, The Prodigy.
  2. Visit Michael King’s blog and fill in your email address to follow via email. Peruse the site, check out the “About” page. There I will be blogging regularly (hopefully) about faith and family, life and love, heartache and triumph.
  3. “Like” Michael King’s Facebook page. You can do this by going to the page or from the blog (in the right sidebar).
  4. Please share this with your friends.

I know this is different. It’s risky. It’s bold. But it’s where my heart is taking me and where I believe God is leading me. Join me on the journey and let’s see where this crazy road will take us.

To celebrate this new direction, I’m giving away three copies of Frantic to those who visit Michael King’s blog and leave a comment. Winners will announced Friday.  WAIT…

THIS JUST IN! My publisher has upped the prize pot to 6 copies of FRANTIC. Go to http://www.michaelkingbooks.wordpress.com and leave comment to be entered!

My Thoughts:

Give Mike … Michael your prayers for this wonderful addition to his writing!  I expect great things, as the Mike we know is a great writer!  He proved that by the intensity of his heart in Frantic.  I saw Mike and Michael in that book!  He’s deep and loving, and he showed us his heart’s cry!

Guest Blogger: “BEING INTENTIONAL” by Mike Dellosso~~With Another “Frantic” Giveaway!

By Mike Dellosso

(Guest Blogger)

If you’re a parent or guardian or anyone who works or lives or interacts with kids you know how the conversation goes:

Me: “Why did you hit your sister?”
Daughter, shrugging: “I don’t know.”
Me: “Why did you shut the door on her?”
Daughter, shrugging: “I don’t know.”
Me: “Why did you color your sister’s nose with red marker?”
Daughter, shrugging: “I don’t know.”

I don’t know. Seems to be the all-inclusive, get-out-of-trouble answer, doesn’t it?

A few months ago I sat my daughters down and lectured them on the importance of purpose, on being intentional, on thinking before you speak and act. I told them not to do anything unless they know why their doing it. And if they don’t know why they’re about to do something, then don’t do it. I thought it went over really well. They listened, they nodded, they agreed when I asked them if they understood . . . and then it went right over their heads.

But it is good advice. Kids will be kids and they will continue to do childish things without thinking about why they’re doing them, but we as adults can be more purposeful, more intentional.

When I speak at writer’s conferences I always harp on the fact that writers should know (1) why we’re writing, what our purpose is, our ultimate goal, and (2) why we’re writing a particular book, what the message is, the intent behind the story.

It’s not only good for writers but for all of us to know why we do what we do. We need a point to start from and goal to aim for.

Here’s a challenge, think about your purpose in life. I’m not talking about having fun or making lots of money or seeing the Steelers win another Super Bowl, I mean your PURPOSE. Why are you on this planet? Why did God give you life? Why does He sustain your life day in and day out and give you yet another day to occupy space in this world? I’m sure you can think of many purposes but settle on the big one, the major one, the purpose that drives all other purposes. This is your life’s North Star, the purpose by which everything is governed, directed, motivated, and scored. It’s your mission statement for living.

Now, take the different aspects of your life one by one and find the purpose for each one of them. Your purpose for being a spouse, a parent, an employee, a Sunday school teacher, a neighbor. Spend some time on this; it’ll be worth it in the end.

Then, look at each action, every spoken or written word, and decide what the purpose is behind it, the intent, the motives. Know why you do what you do.

Here’s how it breaks down for me in regards to my writing:

Purpose of my life: To honor God and make Him proud by loving others, ministering to those around me, and using the gifts and abilities He’s given me to further His kingdom.

Purpose of my writing: To use the platform God’s blessed me with to challenge, encourage, and energize readers in their walk with God.

Purpose for Frantic: To entertain readers with a thrilling story and challenge them to trust God more fully, more genuinely, and more purely. To examine faith—real, innocent, childlike faith—and discover its true source and object.

So now it’s up to you, and you decide what to do with your life. Will you live with purpose and be intentional in everything you do? Or will you shrug your shoulders and say, “I don’t know”?
